Peri-Implant Diseases: Diagnosis and Treatment for Hygienists

Credits:

3

Course Overview:

Peri-implantitis, defined as progressive bone loss associated with clinical inflammation, is not a rare finding these days. The prevalence of Peri-implant mucositis has been reported to be 43% (range 19 – 65%) and Peri-implantitis 22% (range 1-47%).  This constitutes a serious concern for clinicians and patients, given the negative impact on the quality of life for affected patients. Hygienists can play a major role in the management of these diseases. Saving implants is different from saving teeth.

  • Peri-implant tissue is different from periodontal tissue.
  • Diagnosis and Classification.
  • Are some patients more susceptible to peri-implant disease?
  • When is it time to intervene surgically? What works & what does not?
  • How to clean around implants, and what oral hygiene aides really work.
